Wheelys Cafe, Sri Lanka

Hi everyone,

Not that long…but we are happy to say that we are back with our second review!

Ever been to a café which is surrounded by shipping pallets where ever you look? We hope it’s a no.

Down the busy Jawatte road you’ll find this cool hangout spot which is built up using shipping pallets which also has an eco-friendly environment.

So WHEEYLY’S IT IS!

As we entered the café the first thing we sighted was the bike they have which is a “micro café”. Wheely’s café is the world’s smallest café. Regardless being the smallest café, they’ve managed to use the limited space well, they also have upstairs sitting too. The vibrant music they have and the calm environment makes it a place where you could hangout without making you realize how fast time flies. Few weeks after they opened up the place, we were curious to hop in as we are a bunch of foodies chasing new cafes! Out of curiosity we visited the café and you wouldn’t believe, this place became one of our favourites that we’ve been so far.

ONE IN A BILLION OR TWO

-Two billion cups of coffee are served everyday but the one that matters is the one you get-

This was one out of the many quotes which caught our eyes the moment we walked in. What makes this café special and outstand from the others is that they serve their own special coffee blend and the lovely surrounding they’ve.

Their main food menu has a variety of BBQ chicken pieces served along with the main dish or separately, and has a choice of drinks vary from ice tea, carrot & naarang juice, ice coffee and ginger beer.

Out of the selection they had, we thought of trying out the BBQ set menu for our today’s review. For the set menu we had to choose one kind out of; Baked cinnamon rice, garlic bread or grilled corn and jacked potatoes or air fried potato wedges and tomato salad or sautéed vegetables along with our choice of chicken piece served. We went with Garlic bread, air fried potato wedges, sautéed vegetables along with two pieces of drumsticks. Out of the menu, we ordered a piece of chicken thighs separately and the choice of drinks were, ice coffee and carrot & naarang juice.

The BBQ set menu we got was really worth for its price and quantity. Its served with 2 chicken drumsticks and it fills you up for sure. Great for meat lovers and vege lovers both as its served with meat as well as vegetables too!

Our second choice was a piece of chicken thighs which was served separately. We weren’t much satisfied with the presentation of this dish although it tasted good.

We must say that we were overly satisfied with the selection of drinks we went with. We ordered our all-time favourite out of the menu which was their special ice coffee. Pretty much sure that this is the best ice coffee served in town! Its definitely a ‘must try ‘out of their drinks menu.

When ordering the carrot & naarang juice we were not much sure as we had the feeling that carrot & naarang was not much of a good combination to be served together. It was wrong. This juice was one of the best drinks out of the menu and was a hit for the ice coffee too!

Also we were curious to know as to why foil was used to serve food instead of plates, upon inquiry we found out that it was due to hygiene issues and they don’t want to risk it by using plates and dish wash.

They also have an open stage every Tuesday from 7.30 pm to 12 midnight. Not only all immature and upcoming singers or instrument players get the chance to perform but also all who loves to join could give it a try.

Opening hours – 11.00 am to 11.00 pm (Tuesday till midnight)

Location – No. 100, Jawatte Road, Colombo 05.

If you’re looking for a place to hangout with yummy food on an affordable budget, with the wind blowing through and over..…Wheely’s is the place!

Last but not least, not to forget about the friendliest staff you would find there who does an amazing job.

We’ll keep you posted the next time we come across a place as such.

Cheers!
