Barefoot Garden Café
Hey Everyone!
This week we are back with the review of the very famous café down 8th lane, Colpetty. Its none other than the Barefoot Garden Café. It’s a very popular place in Colombo among both tourists and locals which has outdoor sitting as well as indoor sitting. It has a nice & calm environment with summer huts and the soft classical music was a really nice touch to the overall ambiance.
As we walked in, the café was filled up with tourists and locals as usual. Had the mindset for outdoor sitting yet we managed to go with indoor. We were welcomed with a nice greeting by their manager who was really friendly. The cafés option of food had a variety of sandwiches & wraps, salad, snacks, traditional Sri Lankan meals, full English breakfast, and late lunch. The drink menu varied from fresh juices, smoothies, milkshakes, soft drinks, wine, cocktails and beer. Also the dessert menu has quite lot to choose from too.
For our todays review we went along with 3 different dishes from sandwiches & wraps, 3 drinks, and 3 choices from the dessert section.
Our 3 choices from the sandwiches & wraps were;
ROAST PORK WITH BROWN OPEN GRANARY which was two slices of brown granary bread topped with roasted pork which was super amazing served along with tossed salad. This dish was not only delicious but the appearance was mouthwatering too.
CHICKEN CRUNCH SANDWICH which was, ciabatta bread with chicken strips served with a tossed salad which gave it a delicious look as well as the taste was. The portion was sufficient and affordable at the same time.
SMOKED SALMON BAGEL
As the other dishes, this too was dressed well with tossed salad and looked delicious. This was bagel with salmon and cream cheese filled. This wasn’t much good as the bagel was not that soft and was hard to bite into or cut into. It gave us a hard time to cut it and eat! Salmon and cream cheese complimented each other’s flavors and wasn’t that bad.
The drink choices were;
PINEAPPLE JUICE which was fresh and thick but a little bit more of sugar would have done better!
THE ORANGE SMOOTHIE was thick and yummy... it was filling along with the sandwich.
THE PINK FLAMINGO was a wine cocktail served with rose wine and Giffard pink grapefruit over ice. It was sweet and the alcohol didn’t over power the taste of the cocktail. Would have ordered another one if it wasn’t 2pm!
Lastly the dessert choices were;
DEATH BY CHOCOLATE which was a rich chocolaty slice of chocolate cake served with chocolate ice cream. This surely was a death by chocolate… the richness of the chocolate gave it the extra touch and surely did the cozy ice cream! Yet again would have gone for a second round but, we were full!
BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE was swirled with a fresh blueberry puree into the cream cheese and to pour onto, for an extreme flavor of blueberries. The blueberry coulis added the perfect sweetness and the flavor to enrich the quality of the cheesecake.
CRÈME BRULEE which had a hard caramel top was crunchy and flavorful. It added a nice crisp to the creamy rich custard base. It was one of the tastiest crème brulee’s we’ve ever had.
If you’re looking for a place where you could go shopping for handloom items in Colombo and brunch or lunch at the same time and relax with friends for nice chit chat, Barefoot Garden Café is an ideal place to go!
